形声字

组成形声字的两个部分，一部分表示字的意义，叫形旁。同一个形旁和不同的声旁结合，可以构成许多意义相关的字。例如“木”字即古代树木的象形，作形旁，可以组成“树”、“枝”、“株”、“棵”等与树木相关的形声字。
A meaning-phonetic character consists of two parts: one is meaning radical which shows the meaning of the character. One meaning radical can be made into different characters that have relationship in meaning with different phonetic radicals. For example, the character "木" has the shape of a tree, and it is used as a meaning radical. It can be used to make up characters that are related with tree, such as “树”、“枝”、“株”、“棵”, etc.
