形旁的表意状况：由于字义的变迁，很多汉字的形旁看起来已经不表意了，不过有时只要稍微知道一点儿它的“历史”，就能明白形旁的用意。适当了解某些汉字的历史，可以帮助我们记忆汉字。例如，“桥”“楼”“杯”在古代都是用木头制成的，因此它们的形旁是“木”。
The situation of meaning radicals: because of the long history, many meaning radicals seem not to show what their meanings are. But as long as we know some of their history, we can understand them. Knowing the history is helpful. eg. “桥”“楼” and “杯” were all made of wood in ancient times.
